The Oncology Nurse oversees and delivers the care of the patient with hematologic/oncologic diagnoses within the statues of the Arizon! a State Nurse Practice Act. Works with and follows the clinical direction of the Medical
Oncologist/Hematologist to provide cancer treatment care. Assists said physician(s) with exams and other procedures as necessary. Oncology Nurses are responsible for the continued monitoring and following the
administration of medication. Oncology nursing staff is also responsible for administering antibiotics, blood transfusions, and other medication as ordered. Oncology nurses manage patient symptoms that result from
chemotherapy treatment under the direction of the physician(s). These nurses must also take the time and detailed attention to documenting all patient interactions. Oncology nurses are required to assess and educate patients in a detailed fashion.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the ! necessary knowledge, skills
and abilities would be accepta! ble, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements.
A. Education and formal training: Chemotherapy Certification validation PREFERRED, Oncology
Certified Nurse PREFERRED.
B. Work experience: Two or more years as an Oncology Nurse PREFERRED.
C. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific
skills validation and competency testing.
D. Physical requirements: Stand and move around the majority of the day; climb; Must be able to assist with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 pounds. Lift equipment; bend and stoop; push / pull wheelchairs.
