General Purpose
The UC RN is an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team who functions in an autonomous manner utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of patients. The UC RN II must apply current nursing knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to provide for the well being of the individual and the family. The nurse provides care through assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation of nursing care of actual or potential health needs, in accordance with organizational policies an! d the standards of professional nursing practice while assisti! ng the provider with the treatment and examination of the patient. The RN serves as a resource for internal and external customers by utilizing a number of resources such as established CIGNA policies; protocols and guidelines to ensure delivery of high quality care within the guidelines of CIGNA Healthcare of Arizona Nursing Policies and Procedures. The UC RN II utilizes knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills needed to assess, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age patients.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Provides up-to-date health care advice/education regarding health promotion, illness prevention, and management of disease utilizing nursing assessment data, patient, and family and health team input. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific and educational needs of the patient.
Systematically assesses patients’ actual or potential health care needs, prioritizes their urgency and uses creative and effective problem solving/decision making while recommending an appropriate disposition. The UC RN II recommends an appropriate disposition giving consideration to the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific and educational needs of the patient balanced with quality self-care options, health care delivery options, and cost effectiveness.
Documents nursing assessment, planning, implementation in the patient record.! Documentation is timely, legible and in accordance with policy. Evaluates the patients’ and family’s response to teaching. Documentation includes presenting problem, nursing assessment interventions, education and patients’ response to interventions/treatments and education.
Makes follow-up telephone calls to patients and makes timely referrals to case/care management as identified within the QI plan and as is necessary and appropriate.
Utilizes resources appropriately to provide for the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific and educational needs of the patient.
Knowledgeable about health plan education programs, clinical guidelines, facility hours, services and locations, and contractual guidelines.
Provides care based on evidence based guidelines.
Participates in the education, role development and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Promotes/supports growth ! of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
F! ollows OSHA guidelines for handling biological fluids and blood.
Uses supplies in a fiscally responsible manner.
Responsible for following and promoting department and Health Plan procedures, practices, policies, and guidelines to ensure the safety, security, and general well-being of patients and of co-workers.

C
omplexity and Scope
This position coordinates and provides direct care for patients including patient education, telephone assessment and triage. This requires an assessment of the patients’ current clinical symptoms and identification of pertinent medical history. The RN manages clinically complex patient situations and provides guidelines to LPNs to facilitate patient care and coordination of services in the managed care setting. Incumbents work in a fast paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service.
Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments; physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other healthcare institutions community providers and agencies concerning the healthcare of the patient. Interacts with other healthcare providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify inform! ation.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Able to! stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.
Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring on and off of stretchers, exam tables, chair, or wheelchair.
May be required to lift 75 pounds.
Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids.
Needs to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.
Use of computers will be required.

Minimum Qualifications
RN with current unrestricted Arizona license
Graduate of accredited school of nursing
BSN preferred
Current BLS certification
ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire.
Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills
Basic Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications.
Strong Customer centric.
Requires critical thinking, communication, decision making, analytical and strong interpersonal relationship skills.
