DUTIES:
This is the full performance level for staff psychologists.

At this level psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate.

They are assigned to any VHA program and setting, including inpatient or outpatient medicine, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, geriatrics, Vet Centers, and the VHA National Center for Organizational Development. Staff Psychologists

diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological assessments, and treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and adjunctive interventions.

This position emphasizes the provision of Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) as appropriate to training ! and patient care needs at the Northwest VA Health Care Clinic in Surpri! se, AZ. It will also include provision of EBP to other Veteran populations as capacity allows.

Individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, suggestion/ hypnosis, and environmental interventions may also be provided. Psychologists consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues and may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.

The staff psychologist holds a state license to practice psychology and has at least one year pre-doctoral work experience and one year postdoctoral work experience as a psychologist in the VHA or a comparable professional setting.

The psychologist applies advanced professional psychological diagnostic methods and evidence-based intervention strategies to a full range of patient problems in his/her work setting.

S/he has advanced knowledge of psychological diagnosis, intervention, and behavioral health that qualifies him/her! to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines.

The primary job functions of psychologists at this level include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, and education of staff and trainee supervision.

However, some psychologists functioning at this level also have research obligations, associated with a university faculty appointment, collateral supervisory responsibilities, and limited administrative/managerial duties.

The psychologist for whom this functional statement applies is assigned professionally to the Psychology Service at the Cart T. Hayden VA Health Care System. The position being recruited for the Northwest Clinic may include flexible work schedules, including early evening hours and week-end duties.

It is expected that this position will require working on Saturdays.

In addition to providing direct patient c! are, this psychologist communicates and coordinates with the Section Ch! ief and the Psychology Service Chief to plan the implementation of services to meet the most significant behavioral health care needs of the Veteran population served.

Tour of duty will include Saturdays (though not immediately, not until the clinic goes above 10,000 uniques again.)

Education

: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the Americal Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is being employed.

Lice! nsure:
Hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice Psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States.
