The Library is located in the 265,000 square foot Health Sciences Education Building opened in July 2012 which anchors the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, a 28-acre bioscience and educational consortium of biomedical-related research, academic and clinical facilities. The campus is also home to The University of Arizona College of Medicine ? Phoenix, NAU's College of Health and Human Services programs, the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative, a joint research facility. The UA College of Public Health and the UA College of Pharmacy and the UA College of Nursing also have a presence on campus.

The College of Medicine- Phoenix is currently training 282 medical students and at capacity plans to graduate 120 physicians per year. Faculty members doing basic and translational research have earned milli! ons of dollars in federal grants and students are exposed to s! ome of the most innovative educational strategies, methodologies and technical resources in the nation. NAU's College of Health and Human Services plans to graduate 50 physician assistants, 40 physical therapists and 36 occupational therapists per year.

Standardized Patients (SPs) are integral to medical education for students to learn, develop and practice important communications skills and the art of the medical interview. Students also practice their newly acquired physical exam skills to gain confidence prior to working with actual patients. The Standardized Patient will be trained and will be asked to portray a specific case(s) for which the student will do a brief medical interview and/or a focused physical examination.

Standardized Patient activities enable students to learn about medical issues that are sometimes specific to age, gender or other criteria that may not be suited to all Standardized Patients.

Duties and Responsibilities
!

  • Acts as a client or patient in encounters with medical students and responds with programmed responses according to the questions asked
  • Evaluates the adequacy of the interview and communication skills by filling out a checklist and also by giving verbal and/or written feedback following each encounter
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Science, Education, Pre-law or related field AND one year experience in a law, medicine or instructional field; OR, five years experience in a law, medical or instructional field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree, or
  • Experience in any Public Service field, or
  • Previous job experience where customer service is a key component of the job.
  • High School graduate
  • Must be reliabl! e, punctual and dependable.
  • Must be able to read and write.
