DUTIES:
As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the abili! ty to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

Tour of Duty: Days, weekends, evenings and nights. 8, 10 and/or 12 hour shifts.

NOTE: Salary displayed on announcement is for full time employment. Intermittent salary will be prorated according to hours actually worked. Intermittent employees may not be scheduled for employment which will exceed 1300 hours of full-time employment during a service year.

[The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.

In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment.

Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work.

A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA.

Bridge programs that confer a masterÂ's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a BachelorÂ's De! gree is not awarded.

In cases of graduates of fo! reign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration (see paragraph 2a(3)) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

Registration

(a)

Condition of Employment.

A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration

as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the

U.S.

or in the

District of Columbia

The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the

U.S.

and the RN has registration in that country (e.g.,

Philippines

).

The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.

(b)

Impaired Re! gistration.

An impaired registration is a

ny registra! tion(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status.

A registered nurse who has or ever had any such impairment to their registration as listed above may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 15 of this part.

English Language Proficiency.

RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

(6) An active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with re! gard to the following four dimensions of nursing:

Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry.

Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.

Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.

Nurse I Level III - An A! DN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ! an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.

Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
